STIGA Sports and Hammarby Bordtennis in new partnership focusing on children, community and accessibility

From 1 July 2025, STIGA Sports and Hammarby Bordtennis will embark on a long-term partnership with a clear goal: to make table tennis more accessible to children and young people, while jointly taking greater social responsibility. The partnership combines grassroots sports, local presence and a strong focus on CSR, bringing together business and sport in an ambition to create social value.

"This partnership is about much more than table tennis – it's about taking responsibility. By opening up our premises, we want to create opportunities for more children to discover the community and joy of sport. Together with Hammarby, we want to show that business and community organisations can work together to make a real difference in society.
I see Hammarby as one of Sweden's finest and most popular brands, and the forward thinking and innovation of Hammarby Bordtennis fits incredibly well with STIGA Sports as an innovative company," says Andreas Zandrén, CEO of STIGA Sports.

One concrete part of the initiative is that STIGA Sports is making its training hall at Götgatan 105 available to Hammarby for use during the autumn. Every Sunday, children who are waiting to join the club's regular activities will have the opportunity to play table tennis in small groups, led by experienced coaches from Hammarby.

A response to increased pressure and growing table tennis fever

The increased interest in table tennis – not least thanks to Truls Möregårdh's breakthrough and Hammarby Bordtennis' rapid growth – has led to a sharp increase in demand for training times for children and young people. The collaboration with STIGA Sports is an important step in meeting this need and creating more opportunities to get involved in the sport. Hammarby Bordtennis has grown enormously in recent years and has very high ambitions – not only to run a strong and inclusive grassroots programme, but also to establish itself in the top leagues in Sweden in the long term.

"Interest in table tennis has grown significantly in recent times, but at the same time there is a severe lack of training opportunities for children. With STIGA Sports behind us, we can now reach more young people – especially those who might not otherwise have had the chance to start playing. This is not just a collaboration, but a clear step towards making sport more accessible to everyone," says John Ekström, chairman of Hammarby.

More than just training – a commitment to the community

In addition to training, the partnership also includes joint initiatives to install more table tennis tables in urban areas, strengthen the club's presence in schools and build a network between clubs, parents and local businesses.

"Table tennis was huge in the 1980s, largely because it was available in workplaces. Now, together with Hammarby, we want to revive that tradition in a modern way – and we are very much looking forward to working together to develop this aspect in Stockholm," concludes Andreas Zandrén, CEO of STIGA Sports.
