Press release
Eskilstuna, 18 January 2024
- I was incredibly surprised when I got to try out a prototype of a STIGA Sports Cybershape racket for the first time last autumn. The meeting was magical, I have never experienced the same feeling with so much power and control in any other racket," says young padel pro Adam Axelsson.
During FIP Rise in Gothenburg - 17-21 January 2024 - he will be the first in the world to use the unique hexagonal racket in an official competition context.
The hexagonal shape of the racket has already achieved unprecedented success in table tennis. Many people remember how Truls Möregårdh, then still a teenager, made it to the final of the 2019 World Championships in Houston in a flash. With a Cybershape racket specially developed by the product developers at STIGA Sports together with experts at KTH (Royal Institute of Technology) in Stockholm. Now the question is whether the hard-working 18-year-old Smålandsstenar-born Adam Axelsson will achieve similar success as his racket sports colleague, also a "Småland man" Möregårdh (Truls was born in Hovmantorp).
- From a STIGA Sports perspective, we are of course very proud and think it's super fun that Sweden's great future promise chooses STIGA Sports Cybershape racket and also us at STIGA Sports as a partner in his efforts to reach the top of the padel world. Adam is a player we have had our eyes on for a long time and we really look forward to following him for several years to come, says Andreas Zandrén, CEO of STIGA Sports.
Former national coach of the Swedish padel team and former world player Daniel Dios is also one of those impressed by Adam Axelsson's explosive career:
- "To have progressed as quickly as Adam has clearly shows that there is a talent here to be utilised. His aggressive play, dedication and technical maturity combined with a total fearlessness in dealing with higher ranked players makes me confident that we will soon see him competing for the big titles.
